Camp Mason starts a Library

Summer’s off to a great start with good weather, happy campers and a great staff.

One of those staff, Kate Elston, is new this year and has come to us from Australia. She is full of energy and great ideas and serves as Mason’s Media Specialist. She takes oodles of photos (which are posted on the website daily) and is working on a variety of new projects, including a Mason “yearbook” that our Leaders-in-Training are spearheading as their service project and that the campers will help to create and will take home with them a the end each session.

In addition to these projects and a few others, Kate spoke to Don Jennings (our new camp director) about her desire to start a library at camp. Don provided her with a great space where the library can remain for years to come and I offered to assist with the gathering of good children’s literature to line the shelves. We have already received a few donations.

To help the library grow quickly, I have created a WISH LIST at Amazon.com and am asking each of you to visit this list and send some good books our way. The books will ship directly to me and you will receive a gift-in-kind acknowledgement letter soon after we receive your books.

You can use this link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html?ie=UTF8&type=wishlist&id=3KCL552NDZ2ML
OR
follow these steps:
Go to www.amazon.com
Click on “Gifts & Wish Lists” in the top menu bar
Click on “Wish Lists”
In the box where it allows you to search for a list, type in Camp Mason. Magically, the list will appear and you can begin shopping right away!

In addition, many of you may have books in your home library, or in storage boxes that may be appropriate for the library. If so, please let me know what you have and then bring them with you on July 22nd. We want books for children ages 8 - 16; the list is just a small sampling and we will take any and all used books in that age range.

For those of you who do not enjoy the online shopping experience as much as I do, gift cards would also be appreciated. We can use gift cards to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Waldenbooks or Borders, to name a few. If you choose the e-card method, please use my email at camp (laurie@campmason.org).

Camp Mason Alumni Association Mission

The YMCA Camp Ralph S. Mason Alumni Council serves as the governing body of the camp’s Alumni Association. Their primary objectives are:

To bring together, and keep connected, our many thousands of alumni;

To plan alumni events like our Volunteer Work Weekends and our annual Alumni Weekend;

To assist Camp Mason with its annual fundraising campaign. This campaign provides scholarship assistance to youth and families who wish to take part in our programs and assists the camp with funding capital improvements like our new dam and much-needed renovations to the camp’s dining hall.

The Camp Mason Alumni Council is currently seeking to increase its membership. If you are interested in joining, please contact Laurie DeLuca, Development & Alumni Relations Coordinator at 908.362.5828 or by emailing alumni@campmason.org.
