An LT is a camper involved in
an intense 4 week program designed to offer opportunities for introspection,
awareness of group dynamics, problem solving, improving interpersonal
communication skills, and forging enduring friendships. There will
be a focus on outdoor adventuring and wise personal decision making.
LT participants must be 15 or 16 years old. As a camper, LT’s
must complete the entire camper registration and LT application
process before being considered. Entry into the program is competitive,
based on the youth’s application and references, and entry
into the LT experience is not guaranteed as spaces are very limited.
Completion of the LT program does not guarantee a staff position.
Mason’s LT program is designed to enhance
the participants’ problem solving, interpersonal and communication
skills, while building self-esteem and independence. At the completion
of their training, LT’s come away with not only a great sense
of achievement, but also with valuable leadership skills that will
serve them well in school, sports, clubs, church, family, and other
youth programs. Below is a sample overview of the program design,
though not all-inclusive and subject to change, will give an idea
of what to expect.
